Questions:

Are you embarrassed to start the Martial Arts because you do not know any moves or you are not in shape?

Is there a lack of schools in your area that appeal to you?

Are you afraid of being attacked?

Answer:

Defensive Tactics & Fitness Professional Phil Ross’ S.A.V.E. ™ Self Defense Workout Video Series.

What is S.A.V.E. ™ and Who is it for?

The S.A.V.E. ™ Program (Survive A Violent Environment), is a unique workout designed to develop the skills necessary for Self Defense. By following the guidelines and practicing with the instructional/workout video the practitioner will enhance the skills as learned through taking the course or as an adjunct to their current Martial Arts training program. The basic level skills included in the program are necessary for fitness and for survival in a violent environment. One needs to be physically fit, have developed muscle memory, and possess knowledge of practical defensive tactics in order to effectively defend oneself, if attacked. This program addresses all of the aforementioned. Once this has been accomplished, “IT” (Instinctive Technique) has been developed. Once “IT” takes over, thought is removed from the process and the potential victim reacts to the external stimuli instinctively.

Who is S.A.V.E. ™ for? The program is designed for everyone. Whether you are a novice or non-martial artist looking to get in shape or a seasoned black belt searching to add to your current repertoire or teach a new class at your studio, this high energy, low impact workout is the answer.

S.A.V.E. ™ is a unique Self Defense and Fitness Program. The techniques and methodology employed were developed by Philip G. Ross, from his more than 30 years of experience in the martial arts, fitness and security fields. The system is comprised of defensive tactics and develops a mindset that enables virtually any person regardless of age and ability, to learn how to defend his or herself while getting in shape. The program is broken into three basic categories:

1) Heighten Awareness: Introductory 1 hour Lecture/Demonstration. Makes people aware of what to avoid and how to identify potentially hazardous situations. Also alleviates the feelings of helplessness by demonstrating what can be done.

2) Increase fitness and development of “IT” Instant Technique: Taking the Level 1 certification course and practicing regularly with a partner or the S.A.V.E. video will enable the practitioner to develop an instantaneous response when attacked.

3) Share the knowledge: At the higher levels, S.A.V.E. is designed to develop instructors. This will enable those interested in teaching the self defense and fitness method to anyone who is willing to learn.

press5Russian Kettlebells

What is a Kettlebell and why use it?

The kettlebell or girya is a traditional Russian cast-iron weight looking somewhat like a cannonball with a handle. The kettle bell has become a popular exercise tool due largely to the efforts of strength and flexibility coach Pavel Tsatsouline and also by World Champion and world record holder Valery Fedorenko. Many companies produce their own brands of kettlebells and kettle bell exercise programs. Some modern kettlebells feature adjustable weights.

Kettlebell workouts are intended to increase strength, endurance, agility and balance, challenging both the muscular and cardiovascular system with dynamic, total-body movements.

Kettlebell lifting has been nationally recognized and played throughout the world for decades, and its competitive exercises are the ‘Two Kettlebell Jerk’ and ‘One Kettlebell Snatch’; performed in that order for ten minutes each. The competitor with the highest overall score wins.
A Kettlebell resembles a cast iron bowling ball with a handle. Like free weights. A set can range in weight from nine to eighty-eight pounds. Experts classify kettlebells as a type of free weight.

Kettlebell exercises focus on a person’s core, specifically the hips, abs and posterior improving performance for athletes in running, jumping and any other movement requiring pelvic thrust and control. By default arms, thighs, chest and back also receive a substantial workout with added definition. The end result creates rounded, defined muscles as opposed to the lean smooth muscles seen on swimmers, gymnasts and cyclists. How kettlebells differ from traditional free weights is defined by use. Foundation moves including the swing, clean, and press engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, resulting in an overall strengthening of the body as opposed to the single-muscle approach typical of traditional weightlifting.

American Eagle MMA & Kettlebell Student wins the Triple Crown

Joseph McKenna of Montville, NJ recently won the prestigious USA Kids Wrestling Triple Crown at the National Championships held in Orem, Utah June 29th- July 1st. Joe captured First Place in the Folkstyle (Collegiate) National Championships held in Cedar Falls, Iowa on April 2nd. He then continued his dominance of the Schoolboy 91 lb. weight class by winning First Place in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions in Utah. This enabled the 13 year-old Joe to receive the coveted Triple Crown Award that is presented only to those wrestlers who place first nationally in all three styles of wrestling.

Joe was looking to improve his strength and overall fitness in preparation for his quest. He was introduced to Russian Kettlebell training at a wrestling clinic held by Carey Kolat. Joe was then prompted to seek out the area’s top kettlebell trainer and found Phil Ross’ American Eagle MMA & Kettlebell Studio in Ho Ho Kus, NJ. Joe claims that the strength and conditioning that he receives form the kettlebells have given him the edge that he needed to win.

Master of Sports - Pavel Tsatsouline & RKC Level 2 Instructor Phil Ross

October 8th through the 11th, United Sports Training Center, Downington, PA: The RKC

conducted it’s first ever East Coast Civilian Certification. There were over 90 participants from all over the county and world. Gireviks, as kettlebell lifters are referred to as in Russia, came from as far away as Italy, Ireland and Korea to become a certified RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge) Instructor. The RKC is the Gold Standard in Kettlebell lifting and is headed by the Chief Instructor Pavel Tsatsouline, the father of Modern Kettlebell training.

Master Phil Ross, RKC Level 2, was enlisted as an assistant instructor for the international event. Master Ross put the candidates though a Breathing Ladder Workout that he was asked to design and administer at the certification. He also led the test group of 150 plus through an extensive warm up.

The certification weekend was filmed and Amanda Salas provided color commentary and interviewed instructors and participants alike. The documentary will be available on the DragonDoor.com website and on Youtube.com this November. Be sure to check it out to get a look inside what happens at an RKC Certification.
